Privacy Policy
Last updated: 31 July 2026
This policy explains what data Sema collects, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what is needed to answer, record and transcribe business calls; the businesses using Sema control their own data; and we do not sell personal data to anyone.
1. Who we are
Sema (also written Semacall) is a cloud call-centre service operated by Neurotech Africa, a company based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Neurotech Africa, and "you" means the person or business whose data we handle.
Sema is used by businesses to answer their customers' calls. That means we handle two kinds of people's data: data about our customers (the businesses that sign up) and data about their callers.
2. What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the service:
- Account and contact details: name, work email, phone number, company name, sector and team size, as submitted through our signup form or during onboarding.
- Call data: phone numbers, call times and durations, routing information, recordings of calls handled through Sema, and transcripts of those recordings.
- Tickets, notes and campaign data created inside the service by our customers' teams.
- Usage and technical data: log data about how the dashboard and service are used, which helps us keep the service reliable and secure.
3. How we use it
We use this data to:
- Provide the service: answering, routing, recording and transcribing calls, and showing that activity in the dashboard.
- Generate AI outputs our customers ask for, such as transcripts, post-call summaries and analytics.
- Set up accounts, respond to enquiries, provide support and send service communications.
- Bill for the service.
- Keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
4. Call recording
Calls handled through Sema may be recorded and transcribed so that the business you called can review and follow up on conversations. The business using Sema decides which calls are recorded and is responsible for notifying callers and obtaining any consent required by the laws that apply to it. If you have called a business that uses Sema and have questions about a recording, contact that business first; we act on their instructions.
5. AI processing
Sema uses AI to transcribe calls, generate summaries and answer questions our customers ask about their own data. Customers can also connect AI assistants to their Sema workspace through our MCP server; that access works only with keys the customer generates and controls, and reaches only that customer's own data. We do not use one customer's data to provide the service to another customer.
6. Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with:
- Telecommunications carriers and network providers, to the extent needed to connect and route calls.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf under contract, such as hosting, storage and AI processing providers.
- Authorities, where the law requires us to.
7. Security
Calls and recordings are encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to customer data is limited to the people the customer authorises and to the members of our team who need it to operate and support the service. Audit logging is available on Enterprise plans.
8. Retention
We keep account data for as long as the account is active. Call recordings and transcripts are kept so that customers can access their own history, and are deleted or anonymised when the account is closed or on the customer's request, unless we are legally required to keep them longer.
9. Your rights
You can ask us to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, and we will respond within a reasonable time. Where Tanzania's Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 or another data-protection law applies to you, you may have additional rights under that law. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be communicated to account holders by email.
